How to win the waiver wire

Adding the right player is only half of it. These are the rules Fantasy Assist applies when it recommends a waiver target.

  1. 1

Chase opportunity, not last week's box score

A 20-point game from a player who saw three touches is noise. A backup who just inherited 18 carries or a 75% route share is the add, even if his line was quiet.

  2. 2

Add for your starting lineup, not your bench

If the player you claim will never crack your starters, you spent budget on nothing. Prioritize the position where your weekly floor is lowest.

  3. 3

    Budget your FAAB by tier

Season-long starter: 20-35% of remaining budget. Flex-worthy piece: 8-15%. Handcuff or stash: 1-5%. Streamer: $0-2. Overpaying early leaves you helpless at the trade deadline.

  4. 4

Check the schedule you are buying

A pickup is worth more when his next three or four matchups are favorable and his bye does not collide with your other starters.

  5. 5

    Drop the right player

Cut the injured player with no return date or the fourth player at a position you can only start two of — not the bench player with a real path to volume.

Common questions

Who should I pick up on the fantasy football waiver wire this week?

Start with the most-added players below — those are the players fantasy managers in real leagues are claiming right now, usually because of an injury ahead of them, a snap-share jump, or a breakout game. Then filter for the position you actually need to start.

How much FAAB should I bid on a waiver pickup?

A locked-in weekly starter at a position of need is worth 20-35% of your remaining FAAB budget. A speculative handcuff or deep stash is 1-5%. Never bid more than the player would cost you to replace at the trade table.

Should I use my waiver priority or wait?

In waiver-priority leagues, spend the top claim only on a player who will start for you every week for the rest of the season. Streaming defenses, kickers, and one-week fill-ins should come off free agency after waivers clear.

What does most-dropped mean?

It shows players being cut across leagues, usually after an injury, a role loss, or a bye week. It is a useful buy-low signal: if a player is being dropped for a short-term reason but keeps his role afterward, you can add him cheap.
