How to tell if a fantasy trade is good
These are the five factors Fantasy Assist weighs on every trade it grades. Run any offer through them before you hit accept.
- 1
Value on both sides
Two decent players for one star is rarely even. The side receiving the best player usually wins the trade in weekly-lineup leagues, because you only start so many players.
- 2
Positional need
A trade that improves your worst starting slot is worth more than one that stacks depth you will never start. Trading from a surplus is how you win a deal without giving up value.
- 3
Remaining schedule
Check the matchups your incoming players face over the rest of the season, and whether their bye weeks collide with the rest of your starters.
- 4
Risk and injury status
A player returning from injury or splitting a backfield carries more downside than his season average suggests. Discount the price you are willing to pay accordingly.
- 5
Your record
If you are chasing a playoff spot, consolidating for a reliable weekly starter makes sense. If you are already comfortable, adding depth for the playoff run is the safer play.
Common questions
How does a fantasy football trade analyzer work?
It compares the players on each side of an offer using projections, recent usage, positional scarcity, and your roster's needs, then gives a recommendation — accept, decline, or counter — with the reasoning behind it.
Is the Fantasy Assist trade analyzer free?
You can create a free account and use the roster tools at no cost. The AI trade verdicts are part of Fantasy Assist Pro at $4.99/month, which starts with a 3-day free trial.
Does it work with ESPN, Yahoo, and Sleeper leagues?
Yes. You enter the players on each side of the trade and your league settings (team count, scoring format, superflex), so it works for any platform's league.
Should I accept a 2-for-1 trade?
Only if the single player you receive is clearly better than your current starter at that slot and your bench can absorb the lost depth. Consolidation helps contenders; it hurts thin rosters.
